Memorable trip to Kedah,Malaysia!

our last day in Kedah

Langkawi

I didn't blog much about my trip to Kedah in my previous post and now think it's the best time for me to blog about it since I have plenty of free time !

Morning of 26th July 2009 we arrived at Sultan Abdul Halim Airport Alor Star,(capital state of Kedah) taking flight from Kuala Lumpur via Airasia. Upon arrival, we were welcome and fetched by our aunt and she brought us to her home, a place where we stayed in Kedah. It was the time I set my foot to the place which is also famously known for its rice production and is called 'Rice Bowl of Malaysia'

We spent two nights and two days in Kedah. We spent our first day in Alor Star by taking walks around the places that we stayed from there we spent some time -seeing and went quick shopping to the nearby shops. We also had a chance to visit 'Rumah Kelahiran Dr.Mahathir Mohammad' and visit our relatives who lives neary-by.

The next day, we planned a very last minute trip to go to Langkawi island by taking ferry from Kuala Kedah to Langkawi. The fare is RM23 one way. The duration is approximately about one hour and 45 minutes and upon arrival in Langkawi, Khairul (taxi driver that was recommend by my aunty)showed us around and due to our limited time, we took 4 hours of touring Langkawi and only had to pay RM100 for it!(its affordable and its worth the money!as I would describe Khairul as a very good tour-guide!)So, within 4 hours we were only manage to go to 'Kota Mahsuri','Beras Terbakar', 'Orient Village' and Langkawi Cable car (the fare is RM25).

Langkawi Cable Car, I would personally say it was a very great experience. As you reach the top, you can clearly see the panoramic view of Langkawi islands, enjoying the coo air. Insyallah we'll come back again because having day trip is simply not enough to explore Langkawi islands and next time if I want to go to Langkawi, I'll make sure that I have the glimpse of the beautiful islands of Langkawi by having island hopping and visit some of the places of interest that I had in my mind such as the Lake of the Pregnant Maiden, PULAU PAYAR MARINE PARK, TELAGA TUJUH and more ;)

On the 28th of July 2009,the last day of our stay in Kedah. Jaidi fetched us in the morning and brought us to Penang. It took approximately 2 hours (more or less) from Kedah to Penang by car. 0 comments

Penang, the Pearl of the Orient

Penang is also famously known as Pearl of the Orient. It is the place where my grandfather came from and we still have our extended families in Penang. Unfortunately we only spend 2 days and one night in Penang. The time is too short to explore the beauty of Penang.

We only been able to visit Rumah kelahiran P.Ramlee, the famous Malay actor back then, take pictures at Fort Cornwallis. The good part is when Jd(our cousin) who is also my ehem :P showed us around Penang. He brought us to the Jazz club (only a moment) and to the RedBox, family karaoke. That was the first time I've ever experiencing entering Jazz club and the Redbox as we did not have that in our country! and it was awesome! looking forward to it again. ;)
Reluctantly, we ended our journey in Penang by taking night train to go to KL Central and it takes approximately around 8 hours to go to KL central from 9.30 pm until 6.00am.
Surely will come back to Penang ;)

Day trip to Langkawi

Since we had two nights and two days in Alor Star,Kedah my grandpa thought that it would be a good idea if we spend day trip in Langkawi and later his idea prove to be a great idea!

Taken from my other blog:

"We arranged day trip to Langkawi in a very last minute! and we were so fortunate to be able to visit some of the places of interest in Langkawi! We took ferry from Kuala Kedah to Langkawi and call a taxi driver (not only taxi driver but I regard him as good tour-guide!)and his name is Khairul and he is recommended by my aunt in Kedah. For sure we had great time as we only paid RM 100 for 4 hours!"its worth it!

Places that we went:

1) Kota Mahsuri

2) Beras terbakar

3)Langkawi Cable car

and since we didnt have a chance for island hopping,we plan to go Langkawi again next time with a proper arrangement and plans and I wanted to visit some of the places of interest as well such as Lake of Pregnant Maiden and more.

Vientiane, the capital city of Laos

Friends from Laos: Siree, the happy go lucky girl and Toui, the charming handsome looking guy. I was excited when we first arrived at the airport, partly because I know I will be experiencing FUN! and we were given a very warm welcome and the most fun part is I remember we spend most of our time in Laos by walking!and cycling. (but I didnt do cyclying because I do not know how to cycle,)

and the hotel that we stayed looked creepy. It felt like we were living in a haunted hotel There was a special room that is dedicated for the Bruneians and from what I rememeber they said that room has some sort of barriers to what,I don't know and I don't really want to know. But it sure make most of us frightened. But there was nothing scary happened.*lol*

Another good thing happen, we were able to meet the Brunei ambassador in Vientiane and his assistants and they were great, welcoming me and Santi and brought us to dinner at one of Laos's fancy restaurant.

Not mentioning the temples that we visited,it was all beautiful! We also visited Laos National University (correct me the name If Im wrong), the local radio station and etc.( I can't really remember)

Actually, there were lots of good things happen in Laos and in Myanmar as well as Thailand too.we had a very good time!

Luang Prabang,world's heritage site

It's been a long time since the last time I saw the pictures below.Somehow I miss the moments that we used to spend. It was great and it is indescribable and after this program we didn't have the chance to meet with each other again because we are separated by distances.(obviously). I even hardly meet Santi in Brunei! (the other Brunei delegate)

I met Alex in Singapore last year and I met Siree from Laos this year, she came to Brunei to attend her's friend wedding and I've been planning again and again to go ASEAN countries to visit my friends but somehow due to my limited budgets,it hinders me from going and I have to do my savings (and saving money is not easy, everyone knows that*lol*)

Anyway,in this post I am going to concentrate on Laos, particularly Luang Prabang. I love the country very much and I wonder if there are many changes now compare to two years ago. We visited both Vientiene, the capital city of Laos and Luang Prabang, one of thw world's heritage site. I love Luang Prabang the most!I love the environment, the people, the quitness, not so noisy and etc.

A brief about Luang Prabang.Luang Prabang, or Louangphrabang (Lao: ຫລວງພະບາງ, IPA: /luaŋ pʰabaːŋ/), Xieng Dong Xieng Thong, is a city located in north central Laos, on the Mekong River about 425 km north of Vientiane, and the capital of Louangphrabang Province. The current population of the city is about 103,000.

The city was formerly the capital of a kingdom of the same name. Until the communist takeover in 1975, it was the royal capital and seat of government of the Kingdom of Laos. The city is also notable as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Luang Prabang has both natural and historical sites. Among the natural tourism sites, there are the Kuang Si Falls and Pak Ou Caves. Tourists may also ride elephants. At the end of the main street of Luang Prabang is a night market where stalls sell shirts, bracelets, tea - suitable souvenirs. The Haw Kham Royal Palace Museum and the Wat Xieng Thong temple are among the most well known historical sites. Along with the magnificent wats a significant part of the old town's appeal are the many French provincial style houses.

If visitors travel two hours up the Mekong river, they can stay at the Kamu Eco lodge. Traditional Laotian activities (fishing, rice planting/harvesting, archery and gold-panning) can be tried there, as well as a visit to a model village of the Kamu people, who are originally from Cambodia. (taken from en.wikipedia.org) :P

Bangkok is one of the best place for shopping in the world.I'm sure most of you would agree with me. I would decribe Bangkok as shopping paradise for anyone espcially for women. The first was with family in August and the second with ASEAN friends in October under a programme called ASEAN Journalist/Leaders Exhange Programme,Phase 2,2006.Under this programme of 3 weeks we visited Bangkok,Laos and Myanmar.

Let me focus on the Bangkok trip that I went with ASEAN friends as there are more pictures and we visited many place in Bangkok including the Virgin Radio Station,Bangkok University,Bayoke Sky and etc..(I can't remember) and now,let me leave the pictures to do the talking*lol* I was so young back then haha
